Crystal Blue Afghan

Summer, hot and sunny like it is, always reminds me of Tommy James’ hit song “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” I LOVE that song! No special reason why, just it’s such a nice song. Even in 2020.

And I remember it new in 1969!

That summer I spent a lot of time in Pennsylvania. Damascus, to be exact. A little farming hamlet in Wayne County which sits on the left side of the Delaware River across from Callicoon, NY. Not too far from where the Woodstock Festival took place in Bethel, not Woodstock!

In fact, if you’d like to read all about that summer, just click right here! I love the memories from those days!

I didn’t make it to the Woodstock festival but I did drive by it about a week later. Acres and acres of garbage is all I saw! Holy moly, what a mess!

But, anyway, I really have to get some of my BEST patterns and pictures out here!

Here’s one of my favorite patterns. It’s called “Crystal Chandelier” and it comes from the Lion Brand website. Here is the link for you to the Crystal Chandelier knit stitch. I think it is SO pretty!

Isn’t it gorgeous!

Here are a few tips for knitting lace:

  • Always keep track of your rows. I use Post-It notes and they work great. When you have to leave off your knitting, just jot down the LAST row you’ve knit, so you’ll know just where to pick up.
  • Don’t do lace knitting when you’re tired. There are too many YOs and K2togs that won’t come out right. Trust me, I know this!
  • Try knitting lace on small needles, or large needles, just to see what the pattern will look like. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Delft Blue for this beauty. Big needles, size 11. My afghans are usually between 1000 – 1200 yards.

Now, on a hot, sunny day like today, my porch looks just that much better!
